Identify the road, not just the summit
A pass name identifies a place. Check access roads and the exact stopping location before making it a stage. A mapped point does not automatically describe a suitable driving route.
Check the road operator
Look for information from the relevant department or road operator. A neighbouring pass being open proves nothing about your destination. Keep an alternative when current information is unavailable.
Plan the whole outing
Prepare the return and stops, not just the ascent. Check forecasts for the places you will cross. Available time, phone battery and refuelling should fit the full outing.
Use shared traces as a reference
A public Revly route records a previous outing. It can illustrate a loop but does not confirm current road conditions. Hidden departure and arrival areas may also make it deliberately incomplete.
